Munjya Movie Review
Niren Bhatt and Yogesh Chandekar have been active writers in Hindi cinema for the last 10 years. Yogesh Chandekar’s pairing with director Sriram Raghavan has been a hit. Apart from Sriram’s film ‘Andhadhun’, Yogesh’s imaginations also gave the form of stories on screen through the camera in ‘Monica O My Darling’, which was made under his supervision. Niren Bhatt has worked a lot in Gujarati and has shown his talent in Hindi films like ‘Love Yatri’, ‘Made in China’ and ‘Bala’. He joined Dinesh Vijan’s ghost world with ‘Bhediya’ and Yogesh has earlier written Rakesh Sain’s horror film ‘Nano Sa Phobia’, who was also Sriram’s assistant. Horror films have their own grammar. Both the writers have done a new experiment in this with the film ‘Munja’. This can only happen in Hindi cinema that a film which has been known by the name of ‘Munjya’ till now, is called ‘Munja’ on the screen.
But, Hindi cinema has a habit of working in illusion. These days, as soon as the films recover their cost, the PR uproar of them becoming a hit begins. No one asks or tells what is the total budget of the hit film which is being trumpeted and how much money (landing price) has been spent in bringing the film to the theatres. And what is the share of the producer in the amount earned by the film at the ticket window? This has happened with many films including producer Dinesh Vijan’s ‘Bhediya’ and there is every possibility that the film ‘Munja’ will also be declared a hit after two weeks. But, this is the style of Hindi cinema to live in illusion, whose other example is hardly found even if one searches the whole world with a torch. After the film ‘Munja’ ends, there is a mention of it being connected to the stories of ‘Stree’ and ‘Bhediya’. The context is of unsatisfied souls and the wait for a horror film that satisfies the audience of Hindi cinema will continue even after ‘Munja’.
Who will kill Munja?
The film ‘Munja’ starring the lead pair of Abhay Verma and Sharwari Wagh fails in its story and screenplay. Sharwari does not have much to do in the film and the story seems more like a psychological story than a ghost story. As soon as Bittu does unusual things, the person in front expresses doubt about him being under the influence of drugs, the question arises that how does the person asking this question have experience of this? Under normal circumstances, it is always about taking such a family member to a doctor immediately. But, here there is also ‘Kattappa’. If the film becomes a hit in South cinema, then Satyaraj, who played this powerful character in ‘Bahubali’, has been cast in such a character that one feels disgusted just by watching it.
Sarpotdar of ‘Sholay Girl’ did not run fast
The film ‘Munja’ served to the audience in the name of horror stories is a half-baked film. Just like the last two films of this haunted world, ‘Roohi’ and ‘Bhediya’. Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik are adamant that till the release of ‘Stree 2’, they will keep teasing the fans of the film ‘Stree’ and keep people entangled in the mirage of horror films. After watching the entire film, it is understood that why the powerful director of Marathi films, Aditya Sarpotdar, is not able to make Hindi films of his choice for theaters even after making an amazing Hindi film like ‘The Sholay Girl’ for OTT? ‘Thodi Thodi Si Manmaaniyan’ was his first Hindi film. His another film named ‘Kakuda’ with Sonakshi Sinha and Ritesh Deshmukh has been waiting for release for three years. The irony for a director who is dedicated to the vision of the producer is that as soon as he fails to make the film of his choice, he makes his future path difficult for himself.
