Maidaan Review: Ajay Devgan’s shocking performance in the biopic

Maidaan Review

Maidaan is a sports biopic that talks about the least watched sport in the country, football. The story of the man who coached the Indian national football team. Under his training, the team made waves all over the world. Won gold medals from Olympics to Asian Games. Therefore, the period from 1950 to 1960 is called the golden period of Indian football history. The name of that charismatic personality was Syed Abdul Rahim. And the name of the film made on him is ‘Maidan’. Which has finally hit the theaters after being in the making for five years. And since then, what has happened in this country beyond the game of cricket is not hidden from anyone. If you have seen the film ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ directed by Prakash Jha, then you will remember the image of its hero Sandeep Chaudhary in Ajay Devgan’s character Syed Abdul Rahim again and again while watching the film ‘Maidan’. The undercurrent of the story is the same. Time is just a little further back. However, the story of this feat accomplished by Syed Abdul Rahim was never told in history nor to the students on the playgrounds. In this respect, both Ajay Devgan and Boney Kapoor have done a great job,

Story

The game of football has been like an alien for Hindi cinema. Barring a few films like ‘De Dana Dan Gol’, stars have not given much attention to this game of strength of courage and quickness of feet. Director Amit Sharma of the film ‘Maidan’ and its producer Boney Kapoor have been together for about 10 years. Both met for the first time for the film ‘Tevar’. Then Amit Sharma made ‘Badhaai Ho’ and after this film released in 2019, his life till now has been for the film ‘Maidan’ only. The film ‘Maidan’, which reached the theaters with great difficulty, is a timeless film in the sense that if someone watches it on mobile even after years, his heart will be happy seeing the work of those who made it and those who worked on it. So the story of this heart-warming film is simply that a football fanatic, lost in his passion, one day decides to hoist the tricolor on the football field in front of the world. Time is not very good for the film ‘Maidan’ but the film is releasing on Eid and the story is of Syed Abdul Rahim so Eid Milni toh banti hai. If Ajay Devgan gets a character that shakes him from within, he will do anything. Are ready to. And, if the character is like the original, then he can do ‘Company’ and ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ in the same year. Ajay Devgan maintained the same zeal to live the real characters with all their might till the film ‘Tanhaji’ and now Syed Abdul Rahim. Every fan of Ajay Devgan will be proud after watching this film and the general audience of Hindi cinema will be happy that there are still some people in Hindi cinema who save the country, its soil, its humanity and its Ganga-Jamuni culture. Has happened. The film is of one hour before the interval and two hours after the interval. Usually it is the opposite but Amit Sharma also has expertise in breaking the patterns.

Direction

You get to see him in this film. How is Rahim removed from the post of coach of the Indian football team? And how to come back and take India to the top. All this happens in a very cinematic and cliche-filled manner. ‘Maidan’ does not give you anything new as a cinema except experience. Proper template cinema. But I will give full credit to director Amit Sharma that he has left no stone unturned in making this film a masterpiece. He has given everything in making this film. If seen in a way, this is his ‘Baahubali’. And we should acknowledge this thing. The visuals of the film try to cover up the writing mistakes. The VFX of the film is top notch. You will not believe after seeing the football matches shown in the film that the help of computer graphics has been taken in making them.
