IPL 2024: MS DHONI QUITS AS CSK CAPTAIN, RUTURAJ TO LEAD
IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s experienced Captain Cool i.e. MS Dhoni has left the captaincy just 1 day before the IPL 2024. As confirmed by the IPL website, Ruturaj Gaikwad will now lead the Yellow Army.
Dhoni, who has been captaining CSK since the beginning of the tournament, had decided to step down from his captaincy just before IPL 2022. In his absence, Ravindra Jadeja took over the responsibility of leadership. However, this could not last long, as after CSK’s poor performance under Jadeja’s captaincy, CSK management requested Dhoni to reconsider his decision.

Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in a middle class family in Ranchi, Jharkhand (Date of Birth). His father’s name is Paan Singh and mother’s name is Mrs. Devaki Devi (MS Dhoni Parents). Dhoni has a sister, Jayanti, and a brother, Narendra (MS Dhoni Siblings). Dhoni did his schooling from DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi (MS Dhoni Education). Dhoni married Sakshi in 2010 (Dhoni Marriage) with whom he has a daughter Ziva (Dhoni Daughter). Dhoni height of 5 feet 11 inches is also known as Mahi and MSD (Dhoni Nickname Mahi MSD).

Dhoni has also received many awards and honors including the 2008 ICC ODI Player of the Year Award (First Indian ODI Player of the Year), Khel Ratna Award and Padma Shri Award in 2009 and Padma Bhushan in 2018 (Dhoni Padma Award ). Also, in 2009, Dhoni was given the captaincy status in Wisden’s first Dream Test XI team (Wisden Dream XI Captain). Under his captaincy, India won the World Cup again in 2011 after 28 years (World Cup Winner Captain). He said goodbye to Test cricket along with captaincy in 2014. In the year 2018, MS Dhoni became the fourth Indian and second wicketkeeper to score 10,000 runs in ODI.
Dhoni led India in the World Cup for the second consecutive time in 2015 and for the first time, India won all the group matches. Dhoni became the first captain of India who won 100 ODI matches (Most Successful Captain). Dhoni left the captaincy of the ODI and T20 team on 4 January 2017 and announced his retirement from international cricket on 15 August 2020 (Dhoni Retirement). He was made the mentor of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2021 (Team India Mentor T20 World Cup 2021)
Ruturaj also has captaincy experience
Ruturaj Gaikwad may not have captained in the IPL but he has the experience of captaining India. India won the gold medal in the Asian Games under his captaincy. He also captains Maharashtra in domestic cricket. He joined Chennai Super Kings for the first time in the 2020 season. Then his salary was Rs 20 lakh. Before IPL 2024, the franchise had retained him for Rs 6 crore. Ruturaj has also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021.
